Samuel Goldberg

Samuel Benedict Goldberg (March 19, 1900 - December 10, 2006) was one of the last surviving American veterans of the First World War. Goldberg was a Latin American who was born and died in Greenville, Rhode Island. In 1916, he enlisted in the United States Army cavallery division. He enlisted right when General John J. Pershing was fighting in Mexico against Pancho Villa so when the USA became involved in WWI the following year, he did not go to France and did not see action for the rest of the war. During the war, he remained in the United States training soldiers as a drill instructor. He was presented by journalist Will Everett in the Scripps Howard News Service. He died at age 106.
