Samuel Castelán Marini (born May 7, 1985 in Zentla, Veracruz, Mexico) is a singer and composer who won the 5th generation of the popular Mexican reality show La Academia. He describes himself as someone friendly and happy, interesting and authentic.

His contribution to the musicality of the show La Academia was demonstrated when he composed Generacion De La Luz [1]. This song became the anthem for the academia students who were expulsed each Sunday; he has also performed and composed a song dedicated to his native Mexico titled Gracias Mexico [2], which he had the pleasure to perform in the province of Veracruz.

His most moving moment, during the weekly Sunday concerts, was during the 8th when he sang 'Mi Bonbon'. This was the occasion during which all of his town of Zentla formed part of the audience and watched him in performance. He later said of the moment that "it almost seemed like a dream." Samuel had many moments of recognition in La Academia his interpretation, during the 15th concert, of 'Dicen que los hombres no deben llorar' won him immunity from expulsion, by the critics. His interpretation of 'Procura', during the 20th concert, not only won the critics over but the audience as well. Lolita Cortez, one of critics was impressed with how he interpreted, danced, and connected with the audience. During another one of the most laudable moments for Samuel Arturo Lopez Gavito, a critic, named Samuel 'the prodigal son of Zentla'. He was also the student who won the most recognition, as Best Student, by his Academia teachers.

Samuel demonstrated how an individual can succeed through hard work and constancy. His innate talent grew with the progression of the show because of his discipline and effort, which was reflected on the Academia stage each Sunday.

Samuel has fans in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, U.S., and Canada.

[edit] Biography

The son of Teresa Marini Sidi and Moises Castelán Hernández, Samuel has 5 siblings; Beatriz, Susana, Caridad, Enrique, and Felipe. Since a child his passion was music but the economic situation of his family would not allow him to follow his heart. The alternative then became helping his parents sell bread around the neighborhoods and schools and picking coffee.

At the age of 18, he emigrated to Puebla in search of his dream, which started humbly by singing in public buses. Later, he had the opportunity to be part of a musical group named 'Arrebato', which allowed him the experience to perform for 3 years until he auditioned for La Academia and so a new story began to write itself within the world of music.

Now, as an artist with Universal Music.
