Samsun 19 Mayis Stadyumu is a multi-use stadium in Samsun, Turkey. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Samsunspor, currently playing in the Turk Telekom League A. The stadium holds 13,500 people (all-seater) (currently under renovation, see below).
The stadium is named after the date May 19, 1919 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk set foot on land in Samsun to start the national independence movement.
Renovation
In 2006, the Black Sea club decided to renovate the ground, and plans were released to increase the capacity by several thousand by adding a second tier to the 'Maraton Side', as well as covering all the seats with a roof. Currently, the upgrades are being made and the all-covered, all-seated stadium will have a capacity of 17,000.[1]
