The samson fish (Seriola hippos) is a jack of the genus Seriola. It is found in the Indo-Pacific Oceans including Australia and straggling to eastern Northland in New Zealand. Its length is between 80 and 150 cm.

The samson fish has a very low spiny first dorsal fin with no gap between it and the second dorsal fin, which has a high pointed anterior part mirrored in the anal fin.

These fast swimming pelagic fish have similar habits to the kingfish. They are dark blue-green above and silver white below with golden yellow flanks and fins.
