Samre (woreda)

Samre is one of the 36 woredas in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debubawi Zone, Samre is bordered on the south by the Amhara Region, on the west and north by the Mehakelegnaw (Central) Zone, on the northeast by Enderta, on the east by Hintalo Wajirat, and on the southeast by Alaje. Towns in Samre include Gijet and Samre.
Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda had an estimated total population of 118,678, of whom 60,101 were males and 58,577 were females; 7,006 or 5.90% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 29.1%. With an estimated area of 1,538.74 square kilometers, Samre has an estimated population density of 77.1 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 133.18.[1]
