Dr. Sampath Kumar D.Y. (1927 – 1999) was an excellent dancer and dance teacher from Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, India. He was famous for his innovative 'Andhra Jalari Dance' and gave numerous performances in India and abroad for about 45 years since 1955.
He has established Sri Gita Dance College at Vizianagaram and trained thousands of students and artists.
He was awarded as the best dancer in Indian National Dance Festival in 1958 among 1400 dancers from the entire country.
He was selected by the Andhra Pradesh Sangeetha Nataka Akademy to represent Andhra Pradesh and participate in the World Agricultural Fair held in New Delhi in 1960.
He has participated in the World Youth Festival of Berlin in 1973 and selected as the best dance teacher award wherein representative from 143 countries have participated.
He was awarded Kalaprapurna by Andhra University in 1986.
He has participated in TANA and was awarded as International Cultural Award in 1993.
He has received Ugadi Puraskar from Madras Telugu Academy in 1994.
Sampath Kumar choreographed the Andhra Jalari Dance in Telugu Movie Subha Sankalpam picturised on Kamal Hasan. The Movie was directed by K. Viswanath and released in 1995.
