General elections were held in Samoa on 22 February 1985. The result was a landslide victory for the Human Rights Protection Party, which took 32 of the 47 seats[1]. The Christian Democratic party won 13 seats.

Following the election, 11 members of the HRRP defected to form a coalition government with the CDP, and Va'ai Kolone was elected Prime Minister.
