Samantha Kate Winward (born 12 October 1985, Bolton, Greater Manchester) is an English actress, singer and model who attended Turton High School Media Arts College,[1] in Bromley Cross, South Turton. She is best known for playing Katie Sugden in the ITV1 soap opera Emmerdale.

Winward previously dated her Emmerdale co-star, Kelvin Fletcher, and later got engaged to footballer David Dunn. Their daughter Mia was born at home in Edgworth, Lancashire on June 12, 2005.[2]

Sammy and David later split in September of that year,[3] but remain friends. Sammy now lives with Mia, on the same road as her parents Jayne and Martin Winward who are helping her with baby Mia, and recently dated rugby player and former teacher, David Mercer, but ended it after rumours of him cheating and other problems between the two of them.[4]

She appeared in the ITV celebrity talent show Soapstar Superstar in January 2006.

In March 2006, she appeared on the Orange Playlist. Here she explained that she was training to be a ballerina before being picked by her agent Ruth Young to attend the Emmerdale audition.

On "The Antony Cotton Show" on December 29th (2007), Winward discussed her plans for a long-term modelling career and her intentions to leave Emmerdale on a 12 month hiatus. She did not state when this break would happen.

Winward was voted number 73 in FHM's 2006 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll.

She recently appeared on All Star Family Fortunes. Her family lost 381 - 30 to Kyran Bracken.

Offscreen, she is close friends with co-stars Lucy Pargeter and Georgia Slowe.
