Same-sex marriage is a divisive subject in North America as it is elsewhere. Within the United States there is significant variation between different States; periodically suggestions are made to amend the constitution to prohibit Same-sex marriage at the Federal level. In Mexico, a strongly Catholic country, same-sex marriage remains taboo; whereas in Canada it has been fully legalised.
