[edit] History

Beginning in the 12th century it was a part of the Kingdom of Halych-Volhynia. In the year 1374 it became part of Poland. It earned the Magdeburg rights of a city in 1390 and was owned by Spytek z Melsztyna.

Between the years of 1772 to 1918 it became part of the Polish lands that were partitioned by Austria-Hungary. In 1919 it became part of Poland again until its 1939 occupation by the Soviet Union. From 1941 to 1944 Nazi Germany occupied the town. After being retaken by the Soviets, it became a town in a Ukrainian SSR created by Stalin. It was home to Sambor air base during the Cold War. It has been part of Ukraine since 1991.
