Samba rock

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samba rock is a genre of rock music. Created in the 1960s, the genre combines the sounds of soul, funk and Brazilian Samba. Jorge Ben created the style with his famous album "Bidu/Silêncio no Brooklin". After this a great number of artists followed Ben's beat, including Black Rio, Bebeto (singer) and Trio Mocoto. Nowadays the highlight Samba rock band in Brazil are Los Hermanos, which is also considered an Indie rock band. Los Hermanos broke in 2006, but their musicians are still at the musical scene, some in other bands and some in solo careers; Mombojó, which is part of the Manguebeat movement; and other independent bands. So, we can see that nowadays Samba rock has a link with the brazilian Indie rock.
