Samantha Tolj's father is Croatian and mother is Anglo Celtic Australian. Tolj began professional acting guest starring on Stingers, MDA, and a bit part in an episode of Blue Heelers. The Heelers producers were impressed enough to bring her back for two episodes playing a prostitute in the eighth and ninth seasons of the show.
Tolj later joined the main cast, playing Kelly O'Rourke, a police officer, in 2004 as one of four new cast members. This led to her nomination in the 2005 Logie Awards for Best New Talent. She remained on the show until it ended in 2006.
In November, 2005 Tolj crashed her car into a fence near a children's playground in the suburb of Prahran in Melbourne, Australia, with a blood alcohol reading of 0.185%. The actor and a female passenger were not injured. On 22 June 2006, Tolj was convicted of drink-driving by the Victorian courts, fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving for 18 months.[1]
A 2-minute road safety movie she appears in, which previously played before feature films in Victorian cinemas, has been removed.
In 2007, Tolj played a guest role in McLeod's Daughters as Heather Richardson, Grace McLeod's Enemy.
