Samuel Proctor born 1921 in Jacksonville, Florida. Died July 2005.
Proctor was one of the foremost scholars of Florida History. He was a History Professor at the University of Florida. Proctor created the oral history program at UF back in 1967.[1]
Prior to his position at UF, he served in the United States Army during World War II. He taught as a Professor at UF for nearly 50 years, and in 1998 he was named one of "50 Most Important Floridians of the 20th Century". In 2004, the University of Florida bestowed on Proctor an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service.[2]
