Sam Alexander Northeast (born October 16, 1989 in Ashford, Kent) is an English cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off spinner. He is currently contracted by Kent.
He first came to prominence when as a 13-year-old he scored 19 hundreds in a term, and he continued that form at Harrow School where he was in the 1st XI at the age of 14 and more than held his own. Such was his talent that Kent sent coaches to work with him rather than asking him to travel to Canterbury, and he picked up a string of national awards, including a Bunbury scholarship.
In 2005 he made his Kent 2nd XI debut against Durham and scored 96, as well as playing for England Under-15s. In 2006 he was included in a strong Getty XI against the touring Sri Lankans, and he cracked 62. The effort against the Sri Lankans was particularly notable as the bowling attack contained two premier bowlers in Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan, thus confirming Northeast possessed the ability to poteintially play at the highest level. A further indication of his raw talent followed in July 2007 courtesy of a magnificent hundred against Eton at Lords for Harrow.
An allround sportsman, he is a national schools rackets champion, a county squash player and cross-country runner, and good enough at football and rugby to have been offered county trials.
He made his Kent first team debut in a List A match against a touring Sri Lanka 'A' team in July 2007, however, the match was abandoned before he had the chance to bat.
Northeast made his first class debut for Kent on 19th September 2007 in their final LV County Championship game of the season, against Durham at the St Lawrence Ground.
