Sam Kolias is the CEO of Boardwalk REIT (TSX: BEI.UN).[1]
He and his brother Van Kolias, Senior VP of Quality Control of Boardwalk, are at #81 of the top 100 richest people in Canada as compiled by Canadian Business magazine for 2006.
They bought a large chunk of apartment real estate in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Through their public company, Boardwalk Rental Communities, they have also entered BC, Ontario, and Quebec. They got their start in 1984, using a $50,000 loan from their father. Today, Boardwalk has over $2,000 million in assets. The brothers share a 23% stake on a fully diluted basis.[citation needed]
The Koliases are devout Christians and are involved with charities that help the homeless; once a week, Sam serves food at a soup kitchen in Calgary.[citation needed] Sam also keeps a toilet plunger under his desk, a reminder that success comes from "hands on" involvement in the business.[citation needed]
