Sam Kilburn was a first class cricketer who played one match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, against Essex CCC at Bradford Park Avenue, in 1896. He also played for the Second XI in 1899 against Durham in the Minor Counties.

A right handed batsman, he scored 8 in his only innings before being bowled by Walter Mead and did not bowl or take a catch. He was not alone in failing with the bat, Yorkshire were bowled out for only 80 in their first innings, with John Tunniclife scoring 47 of them, as Frederick Bull claimed 8 for 44. Ted Wainwright hit back for the white rose, taking 8 for 34, as Essex were skittled for 55 in return and Yorkshire, batting last on an easing pitch, ran out winners by 7 wickets.

Kilburn played for Yorkshire in a non first class match against Durham in 1896, scoring 8 as Yorkshire trounced their opposition by an innings at 166 runs, the great Schofield Haigh taking a remarkable 14 for 50 in the match.

Kilburn was born on October 16, 1868 in Dalton Fold, Huddersfield and died on September 25, 1940 in Crosland Moor in the same Yorkshire town.
