Samuel L. Jones is serving his first term as Mayor of his hometown, Mobile, Alabama. He is Mobile's first African American mayor.
He ran on a platform of safety, efficient government, historic preservation and bringing employers to the city.

Before being elected as Mayor, he served four terms as commissioner from the state's second largest county.
He is a graduate of Central High School and attended Florida Junior College and Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended the Alabama Interdenominational Seminary and was awarded an honorary doctorate. He spent nine years in the United States Navy.
