Sam Iles (born June 19, 1987) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League
Iles was picked up in the 2006 Pre-Season Draft by Collingwood after he was not taken in the National Draft weeks earlier. Iles played in the VFL for Tasmania as well as for state side in the TAC Cup, which showed signs of development at an early age. He made his debut against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium late in the 2006 season. He played 4 games, being dropped before the finals, but the small backman is expected to play a part next year.
[edit] 2007
Sam has found it hard breaking into the Collingwood line-up, even with strong and consistent form for Williamstown, having managed just the one senior game (playing against Carlton in Roung 7) while being emergency on a staggering nine occasions. He was brought to the side again, Sam returned to the side again in Round 14 against St Kilda, his impressive 19-possession, four-tackle effort in the soggy conditions was highlighted by a series of pressure kicks which hit targets, as well as a strong mark and shot at goal which Dale Thomas crumbed and goaled from as the Magpies came back from 21-points down in the last quarter. With that effort behind him, Iles is hopeful of keeping his place.
