Samantha 'Sam' Holden (née Tolhurst; formerly known as Kylie Deeks) was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Home and Away. She was portrayed by Jessica Chapnik. Despite not being in open credits she still was main charcter
[edit] Story Line
Sam first appeared in 2006 when Jack Holden needed physiotherapy after being attacked. A bond between the two of them soon formed, but Jack's marriage to Martha had just fallen apart, so it was too soon for him to start a new relationship.
Sam and Jack organized a swimming session to help Jack regain the use of his legs. Jack asked Sam if she was married and had kids. Sam didn't like talking about her husband so Sam told Jack it wasn't the right time to be discussing personal matters. Later on that evening while in the hospital room, Sam opened up to Jack about why she was touchy about discussing her husband.
Sam had a little girl who had a rare disease and her and her husband travelled all over the world to try and find a cure, but nothing could help her. This cost a lot of money, the reason why Shane, Sam's husband, sold drugs to pay for it.
Shane eventually shot someone and Sam witnessed it. She went to the police and Shane was sent to prison.
Jack was very supportive of Sam when he found out about what she had been through. Jack than asked Sam if she could bring her son Rory in to meet him. She agreed, and the two bonded quickly. Sam and Jack organized a picnic so Jack could get to know Rory better. After mentioning his and Sam's old house, Rory suddenly clammed up and later apologised to Sam for saying too much.
Jack realized something was up and asked Sam what was wrong. Sam said she and Rory were leaving as soon as possible. Jack didn't understand what was going on until later than day when he found Sam sitting on his doorstep crying.
Sam told Jack the whole truth about Shane. He had friends on the outside who were after her and Rory. They had moved house numerous amounts of times and Sam Tolhurst wasn't her real name. Her real name was Kylie Deeks.
Sam organized another picnic, this time she invited Kit, Kim, Rachel and James. When she went to fill a water-bottle, she was confronted by a person with handcuffs, she screamed and screamed but nobody could hear her. Jack found Sam eventually after spotting her necklace on the ground and the man who had been after her (one of Shane's associates) was arrested. Rory was ecstatic to be happily at home with his mum again. Later on that day, Jack came back from the shops and read a note written by Sam. It explained why she went and how she couldn't put Rory in that much danger again now that Shane knew where they were, but the note made it clear that Jack knew how much Sam loved him.
A few days later and Jack was sitting in the police station when his father came in. Tony noticed Jack had a page of Sam open. Jack went on a mission to find her and eventually tracked her down.
That's when Sam and Rory said their final goodbyes. Sam reassured Jack that if she was ever truly free of Shane the first thing she would do would be to return to Summer Bay.
Sam returned to Summer Bay as promised after Rory contacted Jack, when Sam had had a minor accident. Rory was kidnapped by her Shane and an unidentified woman. He was rescued by Jack Holden after her Shane was killed in a car accident. Rory, now 11 was accelerated from grade 5 to grade 7 when it was discovered he was gifted.
Sam proposed to Jack and he accepted. Jack was shot in the line of duty and ended up unconscious in hospital, Sam channelled all of her energy into caring for Jack and was upset that Jack recovered on one night she had spent at home and having left Martha to watch him.
Sam and Jack Holden were married.
Sally Fletcher was stabbed by Johnny Cooper and he blackmailed Sam into hiding him from the police as he knew about her secret past where she was a part of Shane's drug dealing business. After being attacked by Johnny, Sam hit Johnny over the head with a cricket bat. While Johnny was recovering in hospital, Sam murdered Johnny by overdosing him through his IV on antibiotics leaving Julie, the nurse on charge to take the fall. Jack found out about the murder and her drug dealing past via a letter that Johnny Cooper had written and hidden and had every intention of arresting his wife for murder until Sam told him she was pregnant. Sam verbally attacked Martha, and threatened to turn Jack's life upside down if he handed her in to the police. She then miscarried Jack's baby in episode 4608.
[edit] Death
After losing the baby Sam became mentally unstable. She had nothing left to live for after Jack declared that their marriage was over. Sam wasn't going to leave without a fight, especially if it seemed likely that Martha and Jack were going to reunite. Sam went to the city to ask Rory to run away with her, but he was scared of her and refused to leave with her. With nothing left, she decided to kill herself, making it look like murder. She went to Roman's place to gather 'evidence' that would make it look like Martha killed her. She asked to meet up with Jazz - so that she would give the impression that she wasn't in the frame of mind to end her life. She then went out on a small dinghy to sea, and overdosed on heroin. This explains how she died before hitting the water. It's very likely she hired someone, like before, to beat her up and make it look as if she was attacked.
