Personality-enhancement is a concept from the field of social psychology that is commonly used to describe the predisposition that individuals have "...to distort self-appraisals so as to maintain the most favorable self-view". Self-enhancement involves sustaining and augmenting a positive view of the self;specifically, people are likely to over-emphasize favorable evaluations of themselves, while they are inclined to minimize or forget critical assessments of themselves. In addition, the concept of self-enhancement suggests that people tend to look for flattering evaluations from others concerning their achievements and talents.

Etiquette, one aspect of decorum, is a code that governs the expectations of social behavior, according to the contemporary conventional norm within a society, social class, or group.It fundamentally prescribes and restricts the ways in which people interact with each other, and show their respect for other people by conforming to the norms of society.

Modern etiquette instructs people to:


Greet relatives, friends and acquaintances with warmth and respect Refrain from insults and prying curiosity Offer hospitality equally and generously to guests Wear clothing suited to the occasion Contribute to conversations without dominating them Offer assistance to those in need Eat neatly and quietly Avoid disturbing others with unnecessary noise Follow the established rules of an organization upon becoming a member Arrive promptly when expected Comfort the bereaved Respond to invitations promptly. Accept gifts or favors with humility and gratitude. Acknowledge gifts or favors with prompt tokens of thanks (e.g. a thank-you card)

Table manners are the etiquette used when eating. This includes the appropriate use of utensils. Different cultures have different standards for table manners. Many table manners evolved out of practicality. For example, it is generally impolite to put elbows on tables since doing so creates a risk of tipping over bowls and cups. Within different families or groups, there may be less rigorous enforcement of some traditional table manners of their culture while still maintaining others. For example, some families ignore elbows on the table or mixing of foods.

Table Layout

Bread plates are to the left of the main plate, beverage glasses are to the right. Salad fork, knife and soup spoon are further from the main plate than the main course knife, fork and spoon. Dessert utensils are either placed above the main plate or served with dessert. General Behavior Chew with your mouth closed. Do not talk at an excessively loud volume. Refrain from coughing, sneezing or blowing nose at the table. Never tilt back your chair while at the table, or at any other time. Do not make unbecoming noises while eating. Do not play with food or table utensils. Do not single out or chastise someone who has shown poor table manners. Do not put your elbows on the table or slouch. Always ask the host or hostess to be excused before leaving the table. Do not stare at anyone while he or she is eating. Never talk on your phone at the table. If urgent, ask host or hostess to be excused, and go outside. Apologize when returned. Utensils Do not eat food with your fingers unless you are eating foods customarily eaten with fingers, such as bread, french fries, chicken wings, pizza, etc. The fork may be used either in the American (use the fork in your left hand while cutting; switch to right hand to pick up and eat a piece) or the Continental (fork remains in the left hand) fashion -- either is now acceptable. The fork is used to convey any solid food to the mouth. The knife blade should be placed on the edge of your plate when not in use. The blade should always face inward. When you have finished eating soup, the spoon should be placed to the side of the saucer, not left in the bowl. Keep your napkin on your lap. At more formal occasions all diners will wait to place their napkins on their laps until the host or hostess places his or her napkin on his or her lap When eating barbecue or some other messy foods such as cracked crab, a 'bib' napkin may be provided for and used by adults. Usually these foods are also eaten by hand, and wet wipes or paper napkins should be used to clean the hands. When using paper napkins, never ball them up or allow stains to show. Dining A prayer or 'blessing' may be customary in some families, and the guests should join in even if they are not religious or do not follow the same religion. Most prayers are made by the host before the meal is eaten. Instead or in addition, a 'toast' may be offered. Do not start eating until (a) every person is served or (b) those who have not been served request that you begin without waiting. At more formal occasions all diners will wait to begin until the hostess or host lifts a fork or spoon. When a dish is presented 'family style', the food is served to one's plate and then passed on to the next person. put the food on your left, take some and pass to the person next to you. When serving, serve from the left and pick up the dish from the right. Beverages are both served and removed from the right. Eat soup noiselessly and with the side of the spoon. Tea or coffee should never be poured into the saucer to cool but should be sipped from the cup. Alternatively, ice may be used to cool either. Seasoning ones meal prior to tasting can be considered rude and may insult the chef. Grooming means to enhance one's physical appearance or appeal for others, by removing obvious imperfections in one's appearance or improving one's hygiene. Grooming includes bathroom activities such as primping: washing and cleansing the hair, combing it to extract tangles and snarls, and styling. It can also include cosmetic care of the body, such as shaving and other forms of depilation.

Clothing is an aspect of human physical appearance, and like other aspects of human physical appearance it has social significance. Societies have dress codes, and therefore what a person wears as clothing and how a person wears it communicates a message. This message is about the person's social class, income, occupation, ethnic and religious affiliation, attitude, marital status, sexual availability and sexual orientation. Clothes conver other social messages including the stating or claiming personal or cultural identity, the establishing, maintaining, or defying social group norms, and appreciating comfort and functionality.

Hygiene refers to practices associated with ensuring good health and cleanliness. The scientific term "hygiene" refers to the maintenance of health and healthy living. Examples of practiced personal hygiene:

General

Washing the body and hair frequently. Bathing Showering Cleaning of the clothes and living area. Changing bedsheets when a new person sleeps on the bed. Cutting of nails. Cutting of hair. Cleaning of nails Hands Frequent washing of hands and face. Washing hands after using the toilet. Holding a tissue over the mouth or using the upper arm/elbow region when coughing or sneezing, rather than a bare hand. Alternatively, washing hands afterwards. Not touching animals before eating, or washing hands thoroughly between animal-touching and eating. Suppression of objectionable habits, such as nose-picking, touching pimples, biting fingernails etc. Not licking fingers before picking up sheets of paper or turning pages in a book. (Rubber fingertip covers and Glycerine-based products are available for this purpose, which are available from stationery stores.) Not sharing towels, combs, hair brushes, and other personal things. Other Oral hygiene—taking care of the teeth and gums, and treating or preventing bad breath Daily brushing (with toothpaste) and flossing the teeth, to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. This also helps treat and prevent bad breath. Chewing gum or rinsing mouth with antibacterial mouthwashes (such as Listerine) can also dispel bad breath Avoiding contact with bodily fluids, such as blood, feces, urine, and vomit. Wearing clean underwear, pantyhose or tights and clothing daily. Washing working / social-uniform / clothing at a regular time-interval. Frequent washing of face. -HEALTH is WEALTH- "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"

Physical Health Physical fitness is good bodily health, and is the result of regular exercise, proper diet and nutrition, and proper rest for physical recovery.


Mental health is a concept that refers to a human individual's emotional and psychological well-being. Merriam-Webster defines mental health as "A state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life."
