Salmoneus is a fictional character on the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, portrayed by Robert Trebor. He is based on the mythological character Salmoneus.

He is the ancient Greek version of a traveler dealer. He always has an angle, and never fails to take advantage of a situation. He is also noted for being the composer of Xena's theme music.

[edit] Salmoneus on Hercules

On Hercules, Salmoneus is an important character, in fact, after Hercules and Iolaus, is the character with the most appearances. He first meets Hercules when he is attacked by a Cyclops, and since then have reamined good friends.[1] Salmoneus helps Hercules in many situations, such as at the time when Hercules is blinded and needs to face the Centaurs.[2] Salmoneus is also with Hercules during their fight against Xena, and then with Hercules and Xena in the fight against Darphus. Later, Salmoneus helps Hercules create the Olympic Games, and he even invented the name, and Olympic torch in tribute to the Games.[3]

On Xena, he appears in a total of three episodes, however, he always has enough importance and courage, because he helps Xena to discover who is named The Black Wolf, and helps Xena and others during the escape of the dungeon of King Xerxes.[4] Later, Salmoneus sells weapons to a warrior, the weapons are of poor material and melt in contact with the rain, Salmoneus now being hunted has to be saved by Xena.[5] Later, Salmoneus appears as a speaker, for a Beauty Contest in the name of peace, but of course, Salmoneus is only interested in money.[6]

Salmoneus is a comic character, who knows how to raise laughter from the audience, either with phrases or funny actions, but of course, he has his moments of drama and love during the series.

During his appearances, we see two incarnations of Salmoneus, we see that in the future he will be first, BS Hollingfoffer, the judge,[7] and before Marco, tramp.[8]
