Sally Hardesty is a fictional character in the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and the 2003 remake. She is played by Marilyn Burns in the original and by Jessica Biel in the remake.

[edit] Road Trip
Sally, her brother Franklin , and three of their friends go on a road trip through rural Texas to visit their grandparents' graves. They pick up a deranged hitchhiker, who eventually leads them to an isolated farm. There, they are separated and systematically butchered by the monstrous Leatherface, and eaten by his family, the Sawyers. She is the only survivor. Sally, in the original script, is also pregnant at the time of the "ordeal," but this is never mentioned in the movies.
Sally escapes from Leatherface and his clan as after being captured and graphically tortured, she escapes their grasp and leaps out a window then flees their house and takes refuge in a passing pickup truck.

Apparently, she is driven over the edge by the ordeal. However, her fate differs from sequel to sequel.
The second film's opening text scroll reveals that she becomes catatonic after relaying her account of the massacre. Her uncle, "Lefty" Enright, seeks to avenge his niece and nephew by hunting down the Sawyer family.
The third film's opening text claims that she dies in a mental institution in 1977. The fourth film features Burns in a cameo, catatonic on a gurney (the credits simply call her "Anonymous").

Sally Hardesty's family had all lived in Texas. Sally has one brother named Franklin Hardesty, she and Franklin took a road trip with there friends. Sally's paternal grandfather was Henry Howard Hardesty who had owned a ranch in the Texas Countryside which stored cows, pigs and other kind of animals, they were all up for slaughter, now they usually shot them with a kind of weapon that Franklin had explained to Sally and the friends while on the road trip. Sally's uncle, Lefty Enright, was a Texas Ranger, he had appeared in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

In the film, instead of Sally, her name was changed to Erin and was played by Jessica Biel. Although a remake of the original, only key points were kept from the first film. Erin is portrayed quite differently to Sally, such as at the end on the film, Erin hacks Leatherface's arm off, and repeatedly runs over Sheriff Hoyt until he dies. Where as Sally just escaped rather than deciding to fight back.
