Salem High School is a comprehensive community four-year public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade from Salem City, in Salem County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Salem City School District.

As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 694 students and 51.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 13.5.[1]

The district participates in the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program, which allows non-resident students to attend the district's schools without cost to their parents, with tuition covered by their home district. Available slots are announced annually by grade.

Students from Elsinboro, Lower Alloways Creek Township, Mannington Township and Quinton Township attend the district's high school for grades 9-12 as part of sending/receiving relationships.[2]

Salem High School in 2006 had a 71% Language arts and literacy score compared to a 84% statewide average, in mathematics it achieved only 54% as opposed to 76% state-wide. According to GreatSchools.com the school only rated a score of 2/10, although parents gave it a full five stars[3].

Salem High School competes in the Tri-County Conference, which is composed of schools whose enrollments vary greatly for grades 9-12. The smallest one, Clayton High School, has 249 students enrolled whereas the largest one, Williamstown, has 1,343 students.[4]

The girls basketball team won the 2005 South, Group I state sectional championship, defeating Penns Grove High School 77-54 in the first round and Point Pleasant Beach High School 60-53 in the semifinals, before taking the title with a 57-52 win versus Gloucester City Junior-Senior High School.[5]

The softball team earned the South, Group I state title in 2006 with a 5-4 win over Penns Grove High School.[6]

The boy soccer team earned its first Tri-County Conference Title in team history in 2007 while on its way to its first playoff berth in program history. The team defeated Maple Shade High School 5-0 in the first round of the South Jersey Group I Tournament prior to losing to Arthur P. Schalick High School 3-1 in the semifinal game.[7]
