Saleh Meki was a member of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front offices in the San Francisco Bay Area before he returned to Eritrea. He was appointed and confirmed as the first Minister of Marine Resources. During a Cabinet reshuffle he was transferred to the Ministry of Health. He was trained as an Anesthesiologist in the United States.
