[edit] History

The school was opened in 1991 by Princess Alexandra following the merger of Sale Boys' Grammar School and Sale Girls' Grammar School on the site of the old girl's school on Marsland Road. The boy's school was located on Moss Lane, but since the merger, this site has been converted into a housing development. At the time there was quite bitter disappointment from many parents who had spent time campaigning and fund raising to build a pavilion on the fields, which was demolished to make way for the new houses. A second site, the Claremont Centre located near Sale town centre, is used for sixth form teaching.

[edit] School today

The number of forms within a year group is normally six, but on occasion this has been extended to accommodate higher numbers.

[edit] Site

The main Marsland Road site as it stands today consists of the main building, and separate maths and art, technology and English blocks. There is also a separate sports hall. The site has extensive fields towards the rear on which two football pitches, a rugby pitch, a running track, and two sandpits are situated. Also between the fields and the school buildings is a large concrete area which incorporates a further two sandpits, four dedicated tennis or netball courts and an area used by pupils to play break time sports, most commonly football. The maths and art blocks recently had the addition of a new media suite and an additional dedicated art room. The technology block has two fully functioning workshops, a textiles room, a food room, and a design room. The science block is attached to the main school and has eleven laboratories, one of which was added over the 2007 summer break. During this period the entire science block was refurbished with most rooms receiving new benches and stools.
