Salcette

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Salcete is a taluka (a unit of administration) of South Goa District in the Indian state of Goa. Its administrative and economic headquarters is Margao. It comprises, by local tradition, sixty-six villages[1], hence the name "Saxtty"(सष्टी). Saxtty includes the taluka Mormugao, however. There are six comunidades in Salcette; Raia, Margao, Loutolim, Curtorim, Verna and Benaulim, and Quelossim / keloshi in Mormugao.

Salsette Island however refers to the northern part of the island of the city of Mumbai which was an island in its own right before reclamation of land from the sea led to its merger with the Island of Bandra and Mahim.
