Sal Rei (Portuguese for Salt King in which the salt mines are located) is a town in the northwestern part of the island of Boa Vista in southeastern Cape Verde and also serves its island capital. The town is the 18th largest community in Cape Verde after Cidade Velha. Sal Rei is linked with the island's highway serving Rabil and Norte. Sal Rei has a nice port locating near the bay and serves ferry routes to the islands of Santiago with Praia, Sal with Santa Maria and to Maio with Vila do Maio. West is the island of Sal Rei which is mainly sandy and grassy. The mountains cover the north and the northeast and further north are Ponta do Sol and Cabo Santa Maria, the plain covers much of the area around Sal as well as Praia da Chave to the south and serves a beach town. Much of the land are dry and uncultivatived as well as dry and rocky and a few farmlands cover the area around Sal Rei. and forests cover the northern part, the dry island desert dominates the rest of the area around Maio. A small saline marsh is situated to the northwest.

The street system are grid. Hotels, restaurants and bars make up the main industry of Sal Rei after agriculture and other businesses. Buildings mainly surround the bay. The football/soccer team in town is Académica Sal-Rei.

The national park of Pico d'Antônia which is Pico's fame is bounded to the west along its forests and its slopey valley. More mountains dominate the northeast and the central part are farmlands. The mountains including the view of Monte Batalha dominates the northeast.

A part of the population have moved to other islands and other parts of the world. The GDP for the town is between low and middle range. a part of the population live in poverty and living standards are between low and moderate.

Sal Rei has a school or a collegiate, the island's only middle school and secondary school, churches, banks and a few squares praças.
