I've made a few contributions to wikipedia, my first being Mass balance, which reveals one of my quests: To fight against the evil Implicit Closed System Assumption of most textbooks ;o) which has confused many students over the years. If you're a student: My advice to you is to never use Wikipedia in your reference list (If you're one of my students, you will not get a pass and have to remake your assignment) for two reasons:
1) There are many things in wikipedia (especially in chemistry) which is simply wrong.
2) The good thing with Wikipedia is that it is always changing, but in a reference list you should typically refer to things that do not change.
Since wikipedia is always changing and since I should be doing other stuff than writing this right now, I will only occasionally make contributions to wikipedia and I hope the more wiki-skilled folks are a bit patient with my limited skills in writing nice looking wiki-stuff
[edit] Mass balance
Hi,
I went to look at mass balance and was a little suprised to see what was, in my opinion, an unfortunate state of affairs for something which is arguably a cornerstone of modern chemical & process engineering, not to mention the impact in fluid flow, reactive systems and goodness knows what else. I have begun to try to see what I can do with the article and would appreciate comments as to the direction in which I have been taking it. I must admit i am not finished but hope that early input will help the article somewhat. Thanks User A1 16:06, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
