Are Saint-Germain-des-Pres and the Quartier Latin really the same neighborhood? I remember them being separate but adjacent sections of the same arrondissement. (Or is SGDP part of the Quartier Latin? I haven't been to Paris in years.) --67.71.78.115 01:41, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The students at the University of Paris were communicating in Latin (they came from all over and Latin was their common language). The University was sited on land donated by the church of Saint-Germain des Pres. the heart of the Latin Quarter is where Boul' Mich' crosses the Boulevard Saint-Germain.
