Saints Marcellinus and Peter

Ss Marcellinus and Peter were martyred in Rome during the Diocletian Persecution. It is recorded that they were beheaded, demonstrative of their Roman citizenship. A basilica was built over their place of burial. Our knowledge of them comes from Pope St Damasus I. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates them in an optional memorial on 2 June.
