[edit] Educational Description
Saint Pius X College is a secondary school located in Magherafelt, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is a Catholic co-educational school within the North Eastern Education and Library Board area. The school opened in 1960 and was originally named Saint Pius X High School.
[edit] Building Programme
In 1999 the school began a redevelopment process, which was completed in 2003. This process was originally planned to take 12 million pounds but ended up costing 15 million. 85% of the school is new and the remaining percentage was renovated.
[edit] The Sixth Form
In 2004 the school became a college in order to accommodate a new sixth form. The change of status also saw a name change to 'Saint Pius X College'. The sixth form opened in 2004, allowing students to continue into years 13 and 14 (these year groups were previously not offered in the school). Previously, older students had to move on to other schools in the area to continue their educational careers.
