Saint Louis Public Library

The Saint Louis Public Library serves residents and visitors to the City of Saint Louis. Saint Louis Public Library is unrelated to Saint Louis County Library, except that they have borrowing agreements. Saint Louis Public Library operates 16 library locations throughout the city of Saint Louis, including the renowned Central Library.

[edit] Future Plans
- The Saint Louis Public Library is in the process of a branch modernization program. The modernization program usually consists of a renovation, redecorating, new computers, and new furnishings. Many of the systems branches have undergone a recent renovation with the exception of Cabanne, Machacek, and Walnut Park.
- SLPL announced plan in June 2006 to expand and renovate Central Library while maintaining the historic feel of the library. Plans will include ADA accessibility enhancements and much more.

The Saint Louis Public Library operates sixteen (16) branches within the city limits, plus the renowned Central Library. Each branch is unique and offers neighborhood-specific materials. Each is designed to complement the flavor of the branch's respective neighborhood. For example, the Schlafly Branch offers material specific to the city's Central West End neighborhood, while the Juila Davis Branch offers an extensive African American collection. Most branches offer Saturday hours (except Central Express) and regional branches are open Sunday afternoons as well.

The Central Library at 13th and Olive was built in 1912 on a location formerly occupied by the St. Louis Exposition and Music Hall and was designed by Cass Gilbert.
