[edit] School mission & philosophy
St. Justin was first opened in 1958 to offer parishioners of St. Justin Parish a place to send their children to school. From the start it has been a co-educational institution dedicated to preparing young minds to thrive in high school and beyond in the traditions of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Teachers strive to increase the faith of each student, while also encouraging parents to raise their children in the shadow of the Gospel's message. The general mission of the school can be summed up in their unofficial motto: "We at St. Justin School believe that Catholic education is an expression of the mission entrusted by Jesus Christ to the Church He founded. We strive to prepare our students to proclaim the Gospel message of Jesus and to translate this proclamation into action. St. Justin School implements the four tenets of Christian education which are to build community, to teach Catholic doctrine, to serve others and to lead the children to prayer." [4]
Most St. Justin graduates attend Catholic High Schools in the area including, Mitty, Bellarmine Prep, St. Francis, Notre Dame, and Presentation. It is fully certified by the Western Association of Catholic Schools and the National Catholic Educational Association. It meets the State of California Curriculum Standards, as well as, the Diocese of San Jose Curriculum Outcomes.
[edit] Athletics
St. Justin School has a long tradition of no-cut, equal-opportunity athletics. For decades, the program has been administered by junior high science teacher George Santich. The athletic program strives to offer all students in grades 5 and up the opportunity to discover athletic passion that could perhaps be continued in high school and collegiate athletics. Annually, the school holds the Eighth Grade Boys George Santich Basketball Tournament, which is a week-long event that invites teams from many local elementary schools to compete for title of tourney winner. And, in 2003, the school began its very first annual Eighth Grade Girls Volleyball Tournament following completion of renovations in the school gymnasium. [5]
