[edit] School history

Saint Gabriel's School was founded on 3rd of June 1953. The school began as a small Primary School of 212 pupils with only Primary One and Primary Two classes. The pupils were taught by 7 teachers, under the direction of its founder, the late Reverend Brother Louis Gonzaga.

In 1959, the school became a full school with the first Secondary Four class; and in 1960, pupils sat for the Senior Cambridge Examinations for the first time. In 1969, within 11 years, the Primary School moved into the new premises at Highland Road with an enrolment of 1350 boys. That same year, the Secondary School became a single-session school.

With the establishment of the Primary School, the Secondary School was reorganised when there was a shift in emphasis towards Technical Education. Some premises were converted into machine and electrical workshops to cater to the needs of our pupils and 3 other neighbouring schools.

The Brothers of Saint Gabriel's were at the helm of the school for 30 years (1953-1983) before the leadership was passed on to lay principals (1984- present).
