St. Francis High School was a member of the now defunct Braveland Conference for their inaugural school year, 1962-1963. When that conference dissolved the Mariners became charter members of the Parkland Conference, and were the only school to stay in the conference for its entire existence. When the Parkland Conference dissolved following the 2005-2006 season, SFHS joined the Woodland Conference, and is currently a member of the (Southern Division). St. Francis offers a wide variety of athletic programs including: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling. During McKeon's tenure, he led the Mariners to a 1976 WIAA Class B Championship over Clintonville, and finished the season at 18-7. The next year after Coach McKeon's unexpected passing away, Coach Frank Unterholzner led the Mariners to their first and only Parkland Conference Championship and finished the year at 15-5. The co-head coaches of the basketball team are John Kloppenburg and Joe Paczocha. More information on the Mariner boys' basketball program can be found at http://www.geocities.com/sfhs_hoops

[edit] Girls' Basketball

Due to the late onset of girls' basketball in the state of Wisconsin, St. Francis did not offer basketball to females until the 1976 season, when the program was started by teacher Pat Strozyk, who led the Mariners to their first regional championship (1978-defeated Pewaukee 38-30). Following Strozyk, in his 3rd year Coach Phil Polasek led the Mariners to not only their first Parkland Conference championship, but also their first and only trip to state, where they lost to Algoma in the Class B semi-finals by a score of 31-34. Coach Polasek would also win 2 more regional championships (1982 and 1983) as well as another Western Division championship in the Parkland Conference (1983). The current head coach of the Mariner girl's basketball program is Michael Szydlowski.
