Sainshand

Sainshand (Mongolian: Сайншанд) is the capital of Dornogovi Province in Mongolia. It is located in the eastern Gobi desert steppe, on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. The city has a population of 25,210 (2000 census), 19,548 (2006, est.[1]).

Sainshand sum territory consisits of 5 bag(communes). Bags ##1,2,3 are creating city main part Övör (Southern), bag #4 is Ar (Northern) part, bag #5 is remote (46 km S from city main part) settlement Züünbayan.

Northern part population is 4,944 (end of 2006[1]). The railway station on the Trans-Mongolian Railway is here. 7 km long territory to the W is filled with the ruins of abandoned Soviet military base.

Northern and Southern parts are divided with a hills set.

Southern part population is 12,687 (end of 2006[1]). Main Dornogovi Province institutions are located in this city part.

Züünbayan in fact is an oil production settlement under Sainshand city administrative jurisdiction. Its population is 1,917 (end of 2006[1]). The railway line connects it to the Sainshand station on the Trans-Mongolian Railway.
