Sainikpuri lies to the North East of the Twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is a cooperative housing society for retired defense personnel. Sainikpuri actually started off as a housing society for Army Officers, but now has houses which belong to other defense services as well as a few civilians. Late Brig M. K Rao and Late Brig S. N Docca (former commandant of EME School now (MCEME) were the first few to have got plots in the society and had a vision that the colony would grow into an elite area.
The society is well planned and maintained.There is an abundance of lush greenery. Roads are well laid and numbered. There is a common auditorium / mess which offers a variety of services for the people living in Sainikpuri. These services include a gymnasium,a basketball court,a badminton court,a library, community hall as well as get together in the form of festival "melas" and the occasional game of tambola.There is also a Laxmi Narayan temple close to the auditorium.
Following the well organised layout of Sainikpuri, other residential colonies have come up, to the North of Sainikpuri. Madhavpuri, Osmania teachers Colony, Saibaba Officers Colony, Eashwaripuri colony are a few.
Kapra Cheruvu is a lake closely located to Sainikpuri,Sri Venkateshwara Swami Temple can be visited in Eashwarpuri Colony.
There is an abundance of water and greenery. Residents have the privilege of enjoying the beauty of its picturesque avenues.The colony is very clean and the temperature is lower than most of the city because of its lush greenery. Most residents of the colony have large and beautiful gardens and a huge variety of trees, flowers and fruits growing in them.
New shopping areas have developed like 5th Avenue Bakery-probably the most popular hang out spot for most youngsters in the area, plus convenient stores such as Spencer's, Subiksha and Trinetra have opened their outlets.
Bhavan's Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya School also known as Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sainikpuri is quite close to Sainikpuri and many students from the colony study at the school.
Rajkamal, Neelkamal, Agarwal and Ding-Dong are some of the kirana stores in the area.
Now considered a posh area, old buildings are slowly giving way to multi storied apartments and beyond the reach of Higher Middle class to acquire any living space in this area.
