Sainik School Amaravathinagar is one among the 20 Sainik Schools in India located in Tamil Nadu.

It is an English medium, residential school for boys providing Public School Education with a military bias up to 10+2 stage as per the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Sainik School, Amaravathi was started in 1962 as part of the Sainik School system. It was called Sainik School, Madras (SSM) until 1975. Sainik School, Amaravathinagar, was formed with the objective of training cadets and to make them join the prestigious National Defence Academy - NDA (NDA provides combined training for the cadets entering into all the three forces in India).

Students are selected through an entrance examination (All India level) for the entry into 6th and 9th standard and The selected candidates are given high quality public school education. The disciplined cadets with leadership skills are trained completely to become the Officers in all the three forces, Army, Navy and AirForce. (Only Indian citizens are eligible for entry into this prestigious institution)

The aim of the school is to prepare the boys academically, physically and psychologically for entry into the National Defence Academy or other walks of life. Character, team spirit, dedication to purpose, a patriotic outlook and a desire to serve the country with zeal and efficiency are the qualities sought to be promoted by the training at the school.

The school colors are STEEL GREY and BLOOD RED. Grey stands for strength and red for extreme devotion to duty and comradeship.In the School Crest, the swords represents valour and the lamp stands for knowledge and wisdom. The gopuram symbolises the culture and genius of Tamil Nadu.

The school campus is almost a staggering 240 acres in the Indira Gandhi National Park's valley. Surrounded by mountains on all sides the campus paints a resplendent picture against the backdrop of the Amaravathi Dam

Sainik School attracts and retains the best in class teachers in their fields. The average education of the faculty has Master's degree in their disciplines and Master of Education. The faculty and staff also help in the extra/co curricular activities of the school. Senior Master and English teacher, Mr.A. Santiago Jayaraj Kumar also is the Hockey coach for the school team. All the staff and faculty live with in the school campus or in Amaravathinagar - so that they don't have to commute to work.

  • The roll number & house is the identity of every amaravian, they tell their roll number & house to identify each other.
  • The school academic campus has a War Plane preserved for display.

Amar Sainik Nursery and Primary school came into being in 1985 as a dream child to help the Sainik Staff children and to help the nearby village people. It is started with 50 children, since then the school has undergone a lot of changes for the better. Now the present strength of the school is about 250 children (Approx. 200 boys and 50 girls)
