Sai bai (died 5 September 1659) was the first wife of king Shivaji, and mother of Sambhaji, who succeeded Shivaji as the king.
Saibai was the mother of Chhatrapati Sambhaji, but died at an early age. Before marriage her name was "Rajas Nimbalkar".She was the source of strengh for Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. They also had a daughter named "Sakhubai" who was married to the son of Saibai's brother Baji,to bring him back to Hinduism.Baji was converted to a muslim by Aurangzeb. She died at the fort "Rajgarh" while Shivaji was making preparations for his meeting with Afzal Khan. She was ill for some time and not expected to survive. Sambhaji was very young at the time of her death. He was bought up by Jijabai, the mother of "Chatrapti Shivaji".
