Description

St Peter's Church is a Church of England parish church in Bournemouth in the English county of Dorset (formerly in Hampshire). It was designed by G.E. Street, who later designed the Royal Courts of Justice in The Strand in Westminster, and was constructed between 1844 and 1879. The original church of Bournemouth was considered an ugly building and G.E. Street was asked by Reverend Morden Bennett to create a finer church to match the beauty of the town. The church was named the founding mother church of Bournemouth. It has unusual paintings, stunning stained glass and some of the best examples of alabaster anywhere to be seen.

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, the creator of Frankenstein, is buried in the graveyard together with the heart of her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley.
