[edit] Does not yet capture it

That's true, they were, but every legion had bowmen. The subject is more complex yet but before the right things can be said in the front matter the body has to be researched. I would put arcus and sagitta in here too.Dave 16:04, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

The Notitia Dignitatum refers to sagittarii and equites sagittarii, they seem to be different and I'd always supposed that the equites were the horse archers, the rest infantry archer units. Also there do seem to be sagitarii in Gaul, contrary to the present version of this article, specifically, Intra Gallias cum viro illustri magistro equitum Galliarum: ... Sagittarii Nervii Gallicani. (see http://www.fh-augsburg.de/~harsch/Chronologia/Lspost05/Notitia/not_doc1.html). Does anyone have a reference for limiting this article to horse archers, before I barge in and edit?
