Professor Saghir Akhtar BSc (Pharmacy) PhD MRPharmS was Chair of Drug Delivery at the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University from 2002 to October 2006. [1] He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Drug Targeting. [2]
Professor Akhtar has won numerous academic awards, most recently he received on March 31, 2006 the Muslim News Fazlur Rahman Khan Award for Excellence in Engineering, Science and Technology. [3] On accepting this award he said:
- "I've been very fortunate, blessed, over the years of my scientific career to be awarded several international prizes but this one is first that recognises my reason for existence which is my faith and for that reason this will always hold a special place in my heart so thank you very much again." [4]
Saghir Akhtar is listed as an organiser of the Biochemical Society Focused meeting Cellular Delivery of Therapeutic Macromolecules to be held on August 29 to 31, 2006 in Cardiff University. [5]
From October 2006, Professor Akhtar is expected to be supervising PhD students at the School of Life and Health Sciences, Aston University.
Saghir Akhtar has provided health advice for fasting during Ramadan. [6]
