As of 2001 India census[2], Safidon had a population of 27,542. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Safidon has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 58%. In Safidon, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The place is possibly the site of Sarpadevi or Sarpidadhi referred in Mahabharta and Vamna Puran. It is associated with snake sacrifice of Janamejaya son of Parikshit. The latter lost his life in the struggle against the Nagas of Taxile, which was later avenged by his son Janamejaya, symbolised in the epic tradition of Sarpasastra (snake sacrifice) which possibly took place at Sarpadevi. There are three ancient temples and tirthas of Negesvara Mahadeva, Nagadamni Devi and Nagashetra. Safidon is well connected by rail and road services to panipat,jind,rohtak,delhi,chandigarh.
