Saffron Walden Town F.C. are a football club based in Saffron Walden, England. The club was established in 1872 and are the oldest senior football club in Essex.[citation needed] They won the Essex Senior Football League twice in their history and are currently playing in the Eastern Counties Football League Division One. They also entered the first round of the FA Cup in 1876.
The team are mentioned in a chapter of English author Nick Hornby's book Fever Pitch, an account of his life as a football fan. Saffron are mentioned beating fellow Eastern Counties side Tiptree United 3-0, as Hornby waxes poetical about his experience watching the game and the charm of non-league football.[citation needed]
