Safety turtle

The Safety Turtle, a "personal immersion alarm," was invented by Bob Lyons of Ottawa, Canada, in 1998. Seemingly the first and only of its kind, it is available in two versions:
- The Standard - including one arm band, to be worn by the designated non-swimmer, and a base station, to be used within 100 feet of the swimming area
- The Commercial / Extended Range - including one or more arm bands, to be worn by the non-swimmer, as well as a base station, to be placed at least 100 feet away, and no more than 1000 feet away, from the swimming area, requiring a wired or wireless connection to an alarm system
The black arm bands feature a small turtle in the colors blue, green, yellow, orange, red or purple. Each color turtle is associated with a base station allowing users to be located in the same area while only picking up the signals from their color device.
