Safana Jawad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Safana Jawad (born in Baghdad) is an Iraqi born Spaniard, who was rejected entry into the United States in April of 2006 because of racial prejudice. She was not granted entry into the US to visit her son and was detained and then deported because she is a Muslim of Iraqi heritage.[1][2][3] As a result of this, her son, who was then living with Jawad's ex-husband in the States, moved to Spain with his mother.

The Department of Homeland Security sent a letter apologizing to Jawad for being detained at the Tampa airport and strip-searched at a county jail.
