[edit] Biography
Sadistic Intent formed in 1987. Two years later they released a small run of demo cassettes, called Conflict Within. This was followed with the self-release of a few rehearsal tapes and demos. Eventually Sadistic Intent decided to sign with a rising label at the time called Wild Rags Records. In 1990 the 'Impending Doom' EP was released and a few tours followed in Mexico as well as the United States. The following year, after bitter disputes with the label, they moved on and self released a limited edition (1,000 copies) 7" EP 'A Calm Before The Storm. Due to line-up problems, the band would not release any material until late 1993.[1]
In 1994 Sadistic Intent released the 'Resurrection' MCD. This was the first recording in which bassist Bay Cortez also became the vocalist. After sorting out another line-up problem in 1995, they released 'Ancient Black Earth' as a limited edition (500 hand numbered copies) MCD through their own record label, Dark Realm Records. Sadistic Intent also recorded a tribute song to Celtic Frost for Dwell Records.[1] In 1998, a split 7" EP with the German Black Metal group Ungod was released through the German label Merciless Records. 1999 saw more tribute recordings and releases from Sadistic Intent. One was for California's legendary Possessed, which featured original Possessed front man Jeff Becerra on vocals and would lead to further collaborations between the bands. The other tribute song recorded was for a Dwell Records tribute to legendary Los Angeles metal band Slayer.
Sadistic Intent announced that it was lending its musical abilities to the re-forming of Possessed (band) on its official Myspace page in 2007. [1]
Their career spans two decades, earning them a respected place in the local Los Angeles Thrash/Death/Black Metal community as well as in the international underground scene.
[edit] Stage Shows
Unlike many death metal live performances, Sadistic Intent has consistently appeared on stage wearing spiked bracers, using fog machines, and utilizing stage props such as gargoyles, tombstones, and other atmospheric elements. They have played numerous tours across the United States, Mexico, and Europe, including such landmark events as the Milwaukee Metal Fest and a show in Hamburg, Germany after performing as Possessed at the infamous Wacken Open Air festival. As an organizer of shows in the Los Angeles area, Sadistic Intent has played with and hosted bands such as Suffocation, Emperor, Marduk, Immortal, and many others.
[edit] Dark Realm Records
Sadistic Intent is linked to the record label and record store Dark Realm Records. Fans of the band can often find the owners of the store, Bay Cortez and Rick Cortez working there, who are also members of Sadistic Intent. The store has drawn many comparisons to the infamous black metal gathering site and record store Helvete in Norway. The record label of the same name has released Sadistic Intent albums, as well as albums by Metal bands such as Dark Angel, Pentacle, Witchmaster & Draconis.
