Sadeq Rohani

Grand Ayatollah Sadeq Rohani (born 1926 in Qom, Iran) is an Iranian Marja. He received his Ijtihad Authority at the age of 14, from Grand Ayatollah Abul-Qassim Khoei , which makes him one of the youngest to achieve this in history of Shia Islam. He became a Marja, after death of Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi, at the age of 35.[1]
Among his most notable decrees and opinions are:[2][3][4][5]
- Asking officials to teach Nikah Mut‘ah (temporal marriage for pleasure) to students, to discourage sins (i.e. masturbation). Furthermore, he has issued fatwas simplifying this type of marriage, basing it on the consent of the two parties, without requiring permission from parents or other authorities.
- Criticizing Montazeri's appointment as the successor of Khomeini, calling it "unsuitable for an Islamic government". He later added, "I swear by one and only God that I am not seeking Leadership... but I see Islam, Shia, and Marjas in danger."
- Asking Grand Ayatollahs to choose the Supreme Leader, instead of Assembly of Experts whom he called "representation of the masses"
- Suing former President Rafsanjani, for banning practice of "bleeding (Gheme-zani)" during Ashura
- Issuing a fatwa banning chess
- Allowing reproductive human cloning.[6]
