Talk:Sacred Band Cavalry

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Expand on this article. Much of this article merely assigns lavish praises on the Sacred Band Cavalry. Stick to the sources please. Intranetusa (talk) 18:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

I recommend that the article is deleted. There is no evidence to suggest the existence of a Sacred Band Cavalry in Carthage in any of the primary sources that I know of. Michael A. (talk) 01:43, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

There actually was a Sacred Band Cavalry in existence before the 1st Punic War: http://books.google.com/books?id=vpiFc_OvM0oC&pg=PA14&lpg=PA14&dq=carthage+sacred+band+cavalry&source=web&ots=3GGxlOU1MB&sig=GHmN3RoIwfdm2R6DI4JZ2PqKatM"]http://books.google.com/books?id=vpiFc_OvM0oC&pg=PA14&lpg=PA14&dq=carthage+sacred+band+cavalry&source=web&ots=3GGxlOU1MB&sig=GHmN3RoIwfdm2R6DI4JZ2PqKatM But this article is better off merged with Sacred Band Infantry. Please note that Dodge throughout the text clearly distinguishes between the Sacred Band, and the Noble Carthaginian cavalry. He adds: "The cavalry ... appears to have formed an appendage to the Sacred Band". Firstly, this is speculation (with no primary sources to support it), and secondly, the words do not imply a Sacred Band Cavalry. Michael A. (talk) 20:44, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rome: Total War -- Possible palagiarism

I'm not entirely certain but I believe this text was lifted from the sacred band cavalry unit description from the game Rome: Total War. I will double check to make sure, but the tone and style fit exactly into that of a typical unit description. Just the fact that this description is written entirely in the present tense worries me in itself.70.55.54.104 (talk) 08:07, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
