Sacrifice (2008) was the forth annual Sacrifice professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). It took place on May 11, 2008 from the Impact! Zone in Orlando, Florida.[1] The event featured 2 taglines "What are you willing to Sacrifice?" and "Are you willing to give up what means the most?".
The main event was for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship between Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner in a Triple threat match. Later that night, it would be changed to a Triple Threat match between Joe, Steiner and the winner of the TerrorDome match, which was eventually won by Kaz. Angle was removed from the match due to a result of Angle getting injured in a match over in Japan. The predominant match on the undercard featured a Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament to crown the new TNA World Tag Team Champions after the titles had been vacated on TNA iMPACT! a few weeks earlier. The tournament included the teams of Sting and James Storm, Booker T and Robert Roode, Team 3D, B.G. James and Awesome Kong, Kip James and Matt Morgan, A.J. Styles and Super Eric, Christian Cage and Rhino, and The Latin American Xchange. LAX won the match by winning the tournanment. Other matches on the undercard included a The TerrorDome which had Johnny Devine, Curry Man, Kaz, Consequences Creed, Shark Boy, Jimmy Rave, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelly, Jay Lethal, and Sonjay Dutt all fighting for #1 Contendership to the TNA X Division Championship and to take Kurt Angle's place in the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match, which was the main event match. TNA Knockouts Makeover Battle Royal which included Gail Kim, Roxxi Laveaux, Angelina Love, O.D.B., Jacqueline, Rhaka Khan, Christy Hemme, Traci Brooks, Velvet Sky, and Salinas all fighting for a #1 Contendership to the TNA Knockouts World Championship. The Knockouts match was set up where it would first begin as a battle royal until it came down to 2 women where it would become a ladder match. The winner got a title match while the loser got her head shaved bald. Gail Kim won the match by climbing a ladder and retrieving the contract to earn the right to face the TNA Women's Champion. Per the pre-match stipulation, Laveaux was forced to get her head shaved bald.

[edit] Background
The main feud going into Sacrifice was between Samoa Joe, Scott Steiner, and Kurt Angle, with the three fueding over the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. This feud started before Lockdown 2008 when Scott Steiner said to then champion Kurt Angle that he would be cashing in his TNA World Title shot, that was in his Feast or Fired briefcase which he won at Turning Point 2007, against whoever walked out of Lockdown as TNA World champion. On the April 17 edition of iMPACT!, Steiner said to the new TNA World champion Samoa Joe that he would be cashing in his title shot at Sacrifice. After that, Angle interrupted and said that in his contract there was a clause that stated he got a rematch for his title. It was then announced that on the next week's iMPACT! that Angle would fight Joe for the TNA title in a rematch from Lockdown. The next week on iMPACT! Joe would retain against Angle by pinning him after performing a Muscle Buster and after Steiner hit Angle in the head with a steel pipe from the outside of the ring. Because of the controversial ending of Angle's rematch, Management Director Jim Cornette made the TNA World title match at Sacrifice a Triple Threat match between Joe, Angle and Steiner.
A angle heading into Sacrifice was the crowning of new TNA World Tag Team Champions in the Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament. On the April 17 edition of iMPACT! in a Triple Threat match for the Tag Team titles which had Kaz and Eric Young versus The Latin American Xchange versus the defending champions A.J. Styles and Tomko. The match ended in a controversial fashion where Eric Young left mid way through the match to go backstage. But he would later return to finish the match in his Super Eric gimmick. After that Kaz and Young would win the match and the titles after Young got the pin. Because of Young leaving the match but later returning in a different gimmick, Styles and Tomko said they were cheated out of their tag titles by interference because Young and Super Eric were 2 different people. Because of this Cornette tried to get Young to announce he was Super Eric. Instead Young said he wasn't Super Eric. Because Young wouldn't announce that he was Super Eric, Cornette had to vacate the Tag Team titles. On the April 24 edition of iMPACT! Cornette announced the Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament to crown the new TNA World Tag Team Champions. Where you would have 8 established teams fight in qualification matches with only 4 teams moving on to the quarterfinals of the tournament that would take place at Sacrifice. The 4 teams that moved on would then fight 4 teams made up of the so called "Egotistical 8". They were Booker T, Robert Roode, Sting, James Storm, Matt Morgan, Kip James, B.G. James, and Awesome Kong. They made up the teams of Booker T and Roode, Sting and Storm, Morgan and Kip, and B.G. and Kong. The 4 teams that pasted the qualification period were Team 3D, Christian Cage and Rhino, A.J. Styles and Super Eric, and The Latin American Xchange.
Another angle heading into Sacrifice was Jim Cornette wanting to shut up the TNA Knockouts from complaining so much. On the April 17 edition of iMPACT!, Cornette announced that at Sacrifice there would be the first ever TNA Knockouts Makeover Battle Royal. Explained by Cornette, the match would begin as a battle royal until it came down to the final 2 participants and then it would become a ladder match. With the final 2 fighting to retrieve a contract for a future TNA Women's World Championship match hanging above the ring. The match involved Gail Kim, O.D.B., Traci Brooks, Roxxi Laveaux, Angelina Love, Jacqueline, Rhaka Khan, Christy Hemme, Velvet Sky, and Salinas.
Also at sacrifice was the debuting of TNA's newest innovation The TerrorDome. It had Kaz, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelly, Consequences Creed, Jimmy Rave, Curry Man, Shark Boy, and Johnny Devine all fighting for #1 Contendership to the TNA X Division Championship.
[edit] Event
The event started with a video package hyping up the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match. It also had a outside interview with Jeremy Borash interviewing the participants in the TNA title match as they arrived. First was Scott Steiner with Petey Williams, Rhaka Khan, and Kevin Nash. Then Kurt Angle, who announced that he would not be in the main event tonight because he had a broken neck, which he received in a match over in Japan. And the last to arrive was Champion Samoa Joe. The event then started with a small video opener promoting the main matches on the card.
The opening match (announced earlier in the week on TNAWrestling.com) was Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) versus Sting and James Storm in the first Quarterfinal match of the Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament. The match lasted near 10 minutes. The match began with Devon and Storm. After a few minutes of Storm being in the match he tagged in Sting. After that he refused to tag back in, instead he sit on the apron an drank beer. The match ended after Sting threw Storm through a table and he was pinned by Devon. Because Storm refused to tag in, Sting got fed up with him and when 3D brung in a table to crash Sting through it, he instead picked up Storm (who was sitting on the top turnbuckle) and threw him through it. Sting then left the ring to allow Devon to pin Storm and for Team 3D to move on to the Semifinals.
The second match was Rhino and Christian Cage versus Booker T and Robert Roode in the second Quarterfinal match. The match began with Roode and Rhino and lasted around 7 minutes. The finish came when Rhino hit the Gore on Roode and then pinned him. After the match Cage and Rhino celebrated their win until Booker T interrupted and shook hands with both of them to show no hard feelings. He then left the ring but returned with a steel chair, that was laying against the ring, and beat-down Cage and Rhino with it. Because of this, it turned Booker heel.
The third match was The Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Hernandez) (w/Hector Guerrero) versus Kip James and Matt Morgan in the third Quarterfinal match. The match began with Kip and Homicide and lasted around 4 minutes. The end came when Hernandez pinned Kip after Morgan "accidentally" hit a bicycle kick on Kip.
The fourth match was A.J. Styles and Super Eric versus B.G. James and Awesome Kong with Raisha Saeed in the last Quarterfinal match. The match began with BG and Eric and lasted around 6 minutes. The finish came when AJ botched a Springboard Frog splash. BG then got up off the mat and picked up AJ but AJ pulled James down into a Small Package to get the pin.
The fifth match was the debuting of TNA's newest innovation The TerrorDome. The cage was red with steel bars and a domed roof with a hole in the center of it, that you had to climb out of to get the win. The participants were Kaz, Johnny Devine, Shark Boy, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Jimmy Rave, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelly, Consequences Creed, and Curry Man all fighting for a future X Division Championship match. Before the match Mike Tenay announced that the winner of the match would take Kurt Angle's place in the main event. The match was around 11 minutes. It was high paced and had alot of insane spots. The winner of the match was Kaz after he climbed out of the hole in the center of the ceiling.
The sixth match was Team 3D versus Christian Cage and Rhino in the first Semifinal match. The match began with Cage and Brother Ray and it lasted around 10 minutes. The match ended with Ray grabbing a kendo stick from Brother Devine and hitting Rhino with it. He then would get the pin while Cage was outside of the ring.
